1. What surprises me the most about the clip is the number of English speaking graduates in other countries. I didn’t know about any of the other figures except the fact about today’s learners will have had 10 to 14 jobs before they are 38 years old.
My view on the necessity of education is still the same. Before I started college I knew I wanted to teach more than the standard and most of all I want to teach more than what is expected of me as a teacher. There are so many adults as well as children that are missing out on obtaining global knowledge. Most people have not traveled outside of a certain area in America. If people can’t travel to learn more about the world, we as social studies teachers owe our students the opportunity to learn more about the world through our instruction.

2. Education systems in any country were planned and formed to create a national identity and a national loyalty, but the problems that most countries face is the fact that the students that are taught in these schools are from different ethnic groups or just simply don’t have the same outlooks on the world as the national doctrine that is taught.
My view of multi ethnic or multi cultural education is simple; if we as humans never bother to learn as much as we can about the world and the people in it, we will continue to experience a difficult time forming a peaceful bond with other cultures as well as other countries. Not only do we need the education to understand other cultures, we need multi cultural education incorporated in every classroom in America to create equal educational opportunities for the diverse population of students that make up today’s classroom.

1. There were several things that suprised me after watching the video clip. One of the biggest suprises is the fact that 100% of gradutes in India can speak English. My graduating class had only 24 people who could fluently speak another language. It is hard, but easy at the same time to believe that in ten years China will be the best English speaking country in the world. Education is valued so much more in other countries than it is in America. Education is just an option in America that most people take advantage of, where as it is a great opportunity in other countries. My views on education have changed. Young people need to be aware of the importance of a good education and how closely linked education is with power.

2. Multi-Ethnic eduaction opens ones eyes to the cultural differeces around the world. Without multi-ethnic education the world would be very narrow minded. Everyone should be willing and have the opportunity to learn about the different cultures and languages of other countries in the world so we can function and succeed together instead of in competition. Unfortunately, many countries do not see it that way. America, for instance is always complaining about how immigrants do not need to come to America unless they can speak English, but what rights do Americans have to move to another country or to even go on vacation and not know that countries language and culutural views. Education is the key ingredient in what country succeeds and exceeds. Multi-ethnic education is important so students are aware that not everyone is the same and that there are different languages, cultural views, and a diverse population in the world. You have to have an education on other ethnicities to appreciate and accept different views than your own.

1. I think what surprised me most would have to be the number of English speakers. This is also something I did not know before watching this video. I was shocked to realize that learning English is something that 100% of India's college graduates have achieved, and that soon China is predicted to be the number 1 English speaking country.
This video hasn't really changed my views of the purpose of education. However, it has opened my eyes to the importance of making sure our students are being properly educated in technology, and that they really need to be learning foreign languages and about other countries in general.

2.I believe multi-ethnic education is very important. We all need to know of the different cultures of our world to be able to understand one another. I don't think our world will ever be at peace, but knowing and understanding each other's cultural practices is at least a step towards gaining respect for everyone.

What surprised me the most was how India was the most educated and populated country in the world in 1900. I actually thought like everyone in class that it was Japan or China, Wow! I also couldn't believe that it estimated a 38 year old would have went through 14 jobs. I'm 38 I've not had 14 jobs.
My view on the purpose of education is hungry. I think the U.S. should be hungry and eager to find out how these other countries are prospering and how their children are so much smarter than our children. We need to be more focused on other cultures instead of just trying to survive because this is "U.S".
My view on multiethnic education is I think we all should be willing to learn outside of the box and want our kids to know there are differences in the world besides our color and how we live. We should want to see how the Japanese live and how much the India culture have learned in a faster pace of different languages.

1. First of all I want to say "Wow". There were so many things that I didn't know. I was just overwhelmed and amazed of some of the things stated in the slide show. The one thing that I found very surprising was that in ten years, it is predicted that China will be the #1 English speaking country. How can a country, whose primary language is Chinese, become more fluent that the United States. The fact that the number of text messages sent exceeds the Earth's population was also amazing. My view of education has not changed in the aspect of urgency and necessity but it has changed in aspect of the type of education needed. Albert Einstein made a great point in his quote. Many of us educators are still teaching what we learned when we were children and teaching it the way we learned it. This is not helping in a world that is vastly and rapidly changing and becoming more technological. We as educators can jump on board the train and use the advances as means to prepare our children for the future or hinder them by not preparing them.
2. I think multi-ethnic education is wonderful. How can we teach children that there is only one type of person and one type of life? There is a vast amount of knowledge that can be gained from learning about other people's culture. We must remember that we are preparing our children for the future. The future has given evidence that there is going to be more and more traveling and opportunities to be among diverse cultures.

1.To be honest most of the facts in the video came as a surprise to me, but I think it was more the numbers and statistics that were so surprising. What surprises me the most is the fact that one hundred percent of the college graduates in India spoke English. I also find it surprising that it is predicted that in ten years China will be the number one English speaking country in the world. You don’t come across many people around here that can speak another language fluently. The fact that we have the lowest percent of college graduates between India and China doesn’t really surprise me, but the actual numbers kind of come as a surprise. It is sad that some Americans today take advantage of their education. Kids do not realize how lucky they are to have a free education and the resources that most have. It is sad that nearly two billion children live in developing countries and one in three never complete the fifth grade. My views on the purpose of education has not really changed, they have just become stronger. I think that our children today need to realize how important it is to have an education. They need to realize that having an education will determine their success in the future. We as future educators have to make sure we do what we can to prepare them for the future.
2.Multi-ethnic education is very important in my opinion. We as Americans should stop thinking about ourselves so much and be more willing to learn different languages and learn more about the different cultures. I think we focus too much on “us” and less on the world around us. We need to teach our kids about the different cultures, so they will really appreciate it. We should be like India and China and learn another language. It is proven that it is easier to obtain and learn a new language at an early age. I think that in the future it will be necessary to know different languages to be successful in certain job fields. There are many careers today that have to travel and do business in many different countries. I can only imagine how many there will be twenty years from now. We have to keep in mind that we are preparing our children for the future.

First of all everything surprised me in the video. I did not know any of those facts. It seems as though the United States is behind in alot of things. How is it that India was the leading country with graduates in 2006 with China coming in second place. In the United States it seems that education is only used for the purpose of getting a job and not to increase overall knowledge. It seems that in other countries education is very important for long term usage whereas in the United States it appears for short term usage. You can see this in the percentage of jobs that a person maintains by the age of 38. My question is will my children have enough education to succeed in the 21st century?

2. The United States is not globally minded when it comes to education. I think we need to incorporate and learn about other cultures. This is essential to preserve America.

There were several things that surprising to me. I would not have thought that the US was so far behind China as well as India in the number of college graduates. If our children and young adults spent half as much time with lessons as they do on myspace, etc. we might be more impressive with our numbers. I did not know that in ten years time China would be the #1 English speaking Country or that in 2006 India had the highest number of English speaking graduates.

I feel that multi-ethnic education would be a good thing to have. We should all be able to communicate with everyone in the US. I think it would be good for our children to learn more about the cultures of the other ethnic groups here. I would have loved being taught about the other countries and their cultures.

1. What surprises me? What didn’t you know? How has this changed your view of the purpose of education?

What didn’t surprise me should have been the question. I feel like I have been living with my head in the sand. I had no idea how big myspace is in society today and that 100% of Indies graduates speak English.

I didn’t know China and India ad more college graduates than America.

Education in the past was not a priority it was just something you did to please your parents. Now it is a necessity. As a child I was never taught ABC’s or 123’s. I didn’t start learning them until 1st grade (Pre K and Kindergarten were none existing), and I was not behind. Now if a child doesn’t know their ABC’s or 123’s before Pre-K they are behind and may never catch up.

2. What’s your view on multi-ethnic education?

I feel like multi-ethnic education is a must. I feel that Spanish or a foreign language should be a requirement instead of an elective. America needs to revamp our education system. It needs to focus on technology among other things to equip our students for the future.

That clip showed me alot of things that i did not know. It also surprised me that India had every college graduate learn how to speak English. Then you realize that you were one of the people that played vidoe games for atleast 10,000 hours before the age of 21. Also the average amount of different jobs before the age of 38 is around 10.

My view towards education has stayed about that same. But it did get my attention and maid me notice all the different facts in the world from the past to the present. But also the fact that different countries learn different languages is a plus. I mean i have taken a foriegn language, but i still couldnt tell you a sentence are have a conversation in a different language.

1. What surprises you? What didn’t you know? How has this changed your view of the purpose of education?

What surprised me the most was that in 10 years the number one speaking country would be China. It also surprised me that 100% of the college graduates in India can speak English.

I did not know that every eight seconds a baby was being born. I also did not know that India and China had more college graduates that the U.S.

I have always believed that education was important and that it was important for us to teach our children how important education was. Education has now become a necessity instead of a privilege. Education has become more important than every and we need it to survive not just make a good living.

2. What’s you view on multi-ethnic education?

I believe that multi-ethnic education is vital to the future of the world. It is important for our children to know what is going on in the world and how it affects them. The way our country is moving all of our industry into other counties will soon affect us in ways I think we are not prepared for. We need to understand what is happening in the rest of the world in order for us to stay informed. We can no longer live in a world where we worry about what’s on our local news. We live in a world where things are affecting us and we don’t even know it.

1. What surprises me the most is that the number of college graduates have graduated. In India, the language that is spoken besides their own language is English which is 100%.People will have 10-14 jobs before their 38th birthday. I didn't know that there are 70% of 4yr olds are being exposed to the computer and probably learning how to use it.

2. In Education, I think that our country is multi-cultural and is multi-ethnic educational. It gives us teachers a chance to learn about people who are in another country and it gives them a chance to learn their culture and language.
